Skyline Professional Learning, SY24

PART 1 (Networks 1-8, ISP/ES, AUSL/ES)  This professional learning series is essential learning for all new Skyline adopting teachers. New Instructional Support Leaders and/or new teacher leaders supporting this work are encouraged to attend. Former Skyline adopting teachers are welcome to join for a refresher! These foundational sessions for newly adopting Skyline users, are designed to ensure successful participation in subsequent Skyline content-based professional learning. This professional learning series consists of two, four hour parts.
By the end of these two days of learning, participants will
- Develop a foundational understanding of Skyline systems
- Build shared understanding of coherent curriculum and the Skyline curriculum values
- Begin to internalize key practices and instructional shifts in their content area
- Explore the core components of the Skyline curriculum and how these support the CPS Instructional Core Vision

Summer Kick-off Make-up Session: 7th Grade Plate Motion 
This professional learning series is essential for participants who are implementing and/or supporting the implementation of Skyline Science 7th grade curriculum. It is designed to ensure that all implementers are prepared to teach Skyline so the full richness of content and depth of standards are experienced by all learners, and teachers feel confident implementing their first core Unit. By the end of this three-hour session of learning, participants will:

• Experience differentiated pathways for new and experienced users
• Internalize key practices and instructional shifts in their content area
• Learn to support DL and ELL students
• Plan for successful implementation of their first Skyline core unit, Plate Motion.

More Discourse Strategies (Part 2) IN-PERSON

Teachers will have the opportunity to learn and practice multiple strategies for setting up discussion norms and  discourse strategies to increase student discussion.

6th GRADE Metabolism Engineering Internship IN-PERSON

Participants will be introduced to the unit where students work as food engineer interns at Futura Engineering and apply their understanding of metabolism in designing recipes for bars that balance several criteria.

Formative Assessment Part 2

Participants will:

• Understand the three key practices of assessment
• Understand the alignment of key assessment practices and three-dimensional science assessment

NGSS Part 2
Participants will dive deeper into the NGSS by:

• Analyzing the vertical progressions of the NGSS 
  
• Applying their knowledge of the vertical progressions to their practice in planning for unit implementation
